RANDOLPH — Chief Paul C. Frew reports that the Randolph Fire Department quickly extinguished a two-alarm house fire early Wednesday morning that sent one resident to the hospital for evaluation.
At approximately 3:36 a.m. on July 15, the Randolph Fire Department received a report of smoke in the area of Bartlett Road. While en route, the Fire Department received an additional call reporting a house fire at 8 Harris St.
When crews arrived, they observed fire coming from the right rear corner of the house. Firefighters immediately advanced a hose line to the fire while crews simultaneously searched the home for occupants.
A Randolph Police officer who arrived ahead of firefighters banged on windows to alert anyone inside after observing the fire. The sole occupant, an elderly adult male, was safely escorted outside by firefighters and transported to a local hospital for evaluation as a precaution.
A second alarm was struck to bring additional resources to the scene. Fire departments from Holbrook, Avon, Milton and Braintree responded to the scene, while Weymouth, Canton and Stoughton provided station coverage.
A preliminary investigation indicates the fire appears to have originated near an exterior spotlight at the rear of the home before extending into the attic space.
Firefighters were able to confine the fire primarily to one end of the home, limiting significant damage to a small addition on the right side of the house. The home sustained moderate fire damage to that section, with smoke damage throughout the remainder of the residence.
No firefighters were injured.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Randolph Fire Department.
“Our firefighters made an excellent stop on this fire. Their quick actions helped limit damage to the home,” said Chief Frew. “I would also like to thank our mutual aid partners for their assistance and the Randolph Police officers whose early actions on scene helped alert the resident to the danger.”
