Two Randolph Fire Department Members Graduate From Massachusetts Firefighting Academy

RANDOLPH — Chief Richard Donovan is pleased to report that two members of the Randolph Fire Department graduated from the Massachusetts Fire Academy today.

On Friday, Aug. 27, State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey and Deputy State Fire Marshal Maribel Fournier announced the graduation of 42 firefighters from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.

Graduates completed the 50-day Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program at two campuses: Class #294 trained at the Stow campus and Class #BW12 trained at the Bridgewater campus.

Included in the 24 graduates from Class #294 were two members of the Randolph Fire Department: Nick Catrambone and Nikeala Porter.

“We are excited to welcome these new recruits into the ranks of the Randolph Fire Department and look forward to seeing them grow in their careers as they serve the residents of our town,” Chief Donovan said.

In addition to Firefighters Catrambone and Porter, graduates from the two classes were from Fire Departments in (Class #294) Bedford, Chelmsford, Fitchburg, Hopedale, Hopkinton, Hudson, Lexington, Lynnfield, Medfield, Medway, Newton, Plymouth, Wayland, Westminster, Weston and Woburn; and (Class #BW12) Attleboro, Eastham, Nahant, Salem, Sandwich, Sharon, Stoughton and Yarmouth.

“This rigorous professional training provides our newest firefighters with the basic skills to perform their jobs effectively and safely,” said State Fire Marshal Ostroskey. The Massachusetts Firefighting Academy (MFA), a division of the Department of Fire Services, offers this program tuition-free.

About The Massachusetts Firefighting Academy:

At the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, firefighter recruits learn a wide range of skills in an intensive 10-week program. Certified and more experienced firefighters lead classroom instruction, physical fitness training, firefighter skills training and firefighting practice. Students are given training in public fire education, hazardous material incident mitigation, flammable liquids, stress management, confined space rescue techniques and rappelling. Upon successful completion of the Recruit Program, all students have met national standards of National Fire Protection Association 1001.
