Summer Tips

Pool Safety

  • Always keep any gates locked while the pool is not in use.
  • Enroll children in swim classes.
  • Know what to do in case of an emergency.
  • Do not dive in shallow water.
  • Maintain a 4 foot tall barrier to prevent children from entering the pool.
  • Never leave children unattended when in the pool or pool area.
  • Remove access ladder (if equipped) when the pool is not in use.

Bike Safety

  • When riding a bike you should ALWAYS were a helmet.
  • Wear bright colored clothing that is visible to motorists.
  • Ride with a friend.
  • When crossing a street you should walk your bike in a crosswalk.

Sun Safety

  • Protect yourself from the sun by applying sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays and has an SPF of at least 30.
  • Reapply sunscreen throughout the day.
  • Wear sunglasses with a UV rating.

Boat Safety

  • All passengers on a boat should wear a personal flotation device, better known as a life jacket.
  • Kids should never go out in a boat without an adult.
  • Do not misbehave on a boat – it could capsize (tip over).

Lawnmower Safety

  • Keep your lawnmower in good working condition.
  • Remove large sticks and rocks from your yard before mowing.  If the mower hits them, they could cause injuries.
  • Disconnect the spark plug when working on your mower.
  • Never use a match or lighter to visualize the fuel amount.

Hydration

  • We respond to many medical emergencies that stem from dehydration.  Be sure to drink plenty of water.
  • If you stop sweating or urinating you need to rest and drink water immediately.
  • Coffee and alcohol are not substitutes for water.
